He studied at Nature Care College in Sydney, Australia, where his approach to natural therapies took shape. He first encountered medical leech therapy in 1994, trained in it in Russia and did his internship and practice in Germany. Since the Ministry of Health admitted the method into complementary medicine in 2007 he has practised it in sterile conditions only, and gives seminars and conferences on invitations from Turkey and abroad.

When I returned from Australia to Turkey in 1994, I heard of leech therapy for the first time. I saw people practising it on hearsay, at home, in non-sterile settings, even at the edge of lakes. Ibn Sina, one of the first Muslim physicians, applied it to his patients centuries ago and taught it to his students; in other words, this remarkable method was first practised on these lands. In the Ottoman era even the sultans trusted it and benefited from it. In Anatolia barbers applied it to men in their shops and leech women to women in the hammam, for years; and I was saddened that it was still being done in such poor conditions.
So, to learn this discipline properly and to be of use to the people of my country, which had turned into an open-air hospital, I went to Russia for training and to Germany for internship and practice. After returning I helped spread this therapy, starting with close relatives. In 2007 our Ministry of Health permitted medical leech therapy (hirudotherapy) to be practised throughout Turkey as complementary medicine. Following my work in this method I began giving seminars and conferences on invitations from home and abroad. Our country is very fortunate in terms of the medical leech (Hirudo medicinalis): Turkey is the country where the most medical leeches in the world are collected and exported. In recent years leech farms have been set up in the Black Sea and Mediterranean regions and supply has become easier. But I do not find it appropriate for people to practise this therapy on their own. I strongly recommend having it done by specialists in hospitals or clinics.
